Greater Celandine is a member of the poppy family that is most often used in the treatment of liver and gallbladder disorders.  It has also been used to improve eyesight, reduce high blood pressure, and relieve pain.

History and Uses:
Greater Celandine is a member of the poppy family that is found throughout the Northern Hemisphere.   It is a biennial herb that produces beautiful four-petal flowers that are intensely yellow in color. The herb was formerly used to improve eyesight and to ward off bubonic plague.  Greater Celandine is considered a cholagogue that may be useful for insufficient bile with clay-colored or gray-colored stools and for stagnant liver with flank pain.  Greater Celandine is said to prevent gallstone formation, and has also been used effectively in the treatment of gallbladder infections.  Greater Celandine has demonstrated antiviral activity against retrovirus and is used externally for warts.  The herb is also a nervous system depressant and mild sedative. Greater Celandine has been suggested for high blood pressure and mild pain relief and may also be used as a mild diuretic.

Recommended Dosage:
Take one (1) or two (2) Capsules, two (2) to three (3) times each day with water at mealtimes.

Contraindications:

Greater Celandine carries strong warnings and is subject to restrictions in some countries and may cause severe irritation of the mucous membranes. Pregnant and nursing women should never use this herb, nor should children or those who have liver disease. Its use should always be carried out under the care of a qualified health care practitioner. Chelerythrin, an ingredient in Greater Celandine, is a narcotic, and excess use causes sleepiness and coughing.
